Introduction:
Fire Hydrant Test Procedure
Purpose:
This is for the testing of any Fire Hydrant on the campus. As background, the campus is fed by a private water supply system, not a municipal system.
The system is fed by a 100,000 tank and large supply motor. This system will start automatically based on the opening of any emergency water source, (fire hydrants, sprinklers and any other emergency water source).
Once the system has been activated, the system must be turned off manually by a member of the Facilities team.
A Facilities team member MUST be present at the time
of the testing of any emergency system.
TESTING IS ONLY PERMITTED ONCE PER WEEK.
PLEASE SCHEDULE IN ADVANCE WITH FACILITY OPERATIONS

This SOP only applies to emergency systems and their subsystems.

Procedure:
Step 1: Request is made by the Production, or supporting department, to Facilities by phone call or in person at LEAST 24 hours in advance.
Step 2: Facilities will call the appropriate monitoring center and place the system in Test mode.
Step 3: Once the system is in Test, the department needing to test the equipment can test as necessary. A member of the Facilities team MUST be present during the test.
Step 4: Once the test is completed and communicated, the Facilities team will manually turn off the system at the pump house.
Step 5: Facilities will call the appropriate monitoring center and restore the system to normal operations or leave in Test mode based on the Productions requirements.
